No big boss in L4D?

More zombie news….

According to an article posted on Gamasutra, L4D is not going to have any time of end boss or arch nemesis. This actually sounds like a smart move, since I don’t think you can do a conclusive ending to a zombie apocalypse (unless you pull a Shaun of the Dead):

“The evil mastermind at the end is never as good as whatever you had in your head when you were coming up with it,” Faliszek says, arguing that trying to over-explain the cause of a disaster often detracts from its more tangible impact.

The article goes on to talk about the fact that the key to doing a zombie game is immersion (which I agree with):

In the end, the writing focus for this type of game was clear. “You can’t have the story get in the way. People don’t want cut scenes. I think too many of the zombie games get caught up in [that],” Faliszek said. “People don’t want this heavy handed story. They want the zombie apocalypse.”

God, I can’t fucking wait for this game.

L4D Demo coming

So it sounds like a L4D demo is going to be available before the launch of the game in late November. From this short article:

Newell said: “We will be releasing demos for both the Xbox and for the PC. I don’t know what the date is for release on that, though. I think it’s going to contain the first part of one of the campaigns. I think it’ll probably be Hospital but I’m not sure. That’s a decision that Doug Lombardi is making.”

This thing will likely get played to death before the game comes out but I’m glad we’ll get an early taste.

Sporeified Serenity

As a followup to some of the ships I posted about, I’ve got to include this one:

serenity awesomeness

This one makes all of the other ships I’ve seen posted so far look like kids play.
